Motimer ("the Extension," "we," "our") is a browser extension that helps users track task timing, submission history, and productivity on TryRating.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information Motimer accesses, how it is used, and the choices available to you.
Motimer is designed around a simple principle: your data stays yours.
All task and timing data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's extension storage.
If you choose to connect Google Drive, your data is backed up only to your own private Google Drive app-data space — a hidden folder tied to this extension that no other app, and no server operated by us, can access.
Motimer does not operate any backend server. There is no company database that receives, stores, or processes your personal data.
Motimer does not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties, and does not use your data for advertising.
2. Information We Access and Why
2.1 Task and timing data (stored locally)
When you use TryRating.com with Motimer installed, the Extension reads publicly visible page content (such as Task ID, Request ID, task type, and estimated response time) to:
Start and stop timers automatically.
Record submission history for your personal dashboard.
Show ERT ("Estimated Rating Time") warnings and reminders.
This information is stored only in your local browser storage (chrome.storage.local). It is never transmitted to any server we control.
2.2 Google Account information (optional — only if you connect Google)
Motimer can optionally connect to your Google Account to enable two features. Both require your explicit, separate consent via Google's sign-in screen, and both can be disconnected at any time from the Motimer settings page.
a) Google Drive backup (drive.appdata scope)
Used to back up and restore your task history, settings, and notes.
Data is written only to your Google Drive's hidden "Application Data" folder — a private space associated exclusively with this extension. You cannot see or browse this folder from the normal Google Drive interface, and no other application can read it.
This is a direct connection between your browser and Google's servers. Motimer's developer never receives, stores, or has access to a copy of this data.
b) Sending task-availability emails (gmail.send scope)
If you enter a recipient email address in Motimer's settings, and you manually indicate you are waiting for a new task (via the "Check Now" action), the Extension may send one notification email to that address when a new task becomes available.
This scope grants send-only access. Motimer cannot read, search, modify, forward, or delete any of your existing emails, and never requests permission to do so.
The email is sent directly through Google's Gmail API using your own authorization; no copy of the email or its content passes through any server operated by the developer.
c) Basic profile info (userinfo.email scope)
Used only to display which Google account is currently connected inside the Extension's settings UI (e.g., "Connected as you@example.com").
2.3 Settings you provide
Information you type into Motimer's settings screen (such as an optional pay rate, currency, notification preferences, and an optional admin password) is stored locally on your device only. If you set an admin password, it is never stored in plain text — it is hashed using PBKDF2 (SHA-256, 600,000 iterations) before being saved, and the hash never leaves your device.
2.4 Website access (TryRating.com)
Motimer's content script runs only on tryrating.com pages. It reads on-page task information (as described in 2.1) purely to power the timer and dashboard. It does not track your browsing on any other website.
3. Information We Do NOT Collect
Motimer does not:
Operate any server that receives your data.
Track your browsing activity outside of TryRating.com.
Collect analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics.
Share, sell, or rent any data to third parties or advertisers.
Read, search, or access the content of your Gmail inbox.
Access any Google Drive files or folders outside its own private app-data space.
4. Data Storage and Security
Local data is stored using Chrome's built-in extension storage APIs, sandboxed to your browser profile and this extension only.
Cloud backup data (if you opt in) is stored exclusively in your own Google Drive appDataFolder, protected by your Google Account's own security.
Sensitive local values (such as your optional admin password) are hashed before storage and are never transmitted anywhere.
All communication with Google APIs occurs over encrypted HTTPS connections.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
You can clear all locally stored data at any time by removing the extension or clearing its storage from your browser's extension settings.
You can disconnect your Google Account at any time from Motimer's settings; this revokes the Extension's access token and stops any further Drive or Gmail activity.
To delete your Drive backup, disconnect the Google Account connection and then revoke Motimer's access from your Google Account's Third-Party Apps & Services page; this permanently deletes the app-data folder associated with the Extension.
6. Children's Privacy
Motimer is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Extension's functionality or legal requirements. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of Motimer after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
